Raffles Bali invites travellers to experience the magic of Nyepi - the Balinese day of silence
Raffles Bali, set within a majestic 23-hectare estate overlooking the ocean and flourishing greenery, invites travellers to experience the magic of Nyepi – the Balinese Day of Silence – through a thoughtful blend of cultural ritual, nature-led exploration and quiet renewal.
Recognised as a place of authentic culture and graceful seclusion, the resort offers a deeply personal way to witness one of Bali’s most meaningful traditions. Nyepi marks the Balinese New Year, a sacred 24-hour pause when the entire island embraces stillness. Streets fall silent, lights dim and even the airport closes, creating an atmosphere found nowhere else in the world. For guests of Raffles Bali, it becomes a world of beauty, wonder and inspiration – a moment to breathe, reflect, and experience the island at its gentlest rhythm, supported by the warmth and eloquence of human encounter delivered through the resort’s legendary butler service. The Eve of Nyepi: Ogoh-Ogoh Parade. The evening before Nyepi, travellers are invited to join a guided village walk to witness the celebrated Ogoh-Ogoh procession. Towering hand-crafted effigies are paraded through the streets before being ceremonially burned, symbolising the release of negative energies. It is one of Bali’s most vibrant traditions and a powerful expression of its culturally well-connected community spirit.

‘Wings of the wild’ guided nature experience with Raffles Bali, celebrating living landscape.
Raffles Bali is pleased to introduce ‘Wings of the Wild’, a guided nature experience created for resident guests. Set across the resort’s verdant hillsides, coastal edges and flourishing gardens, the programme reflects the resort’s ongoing commitment to preserving culture and nature, while creating inspired and unexpected guest experiences that honour the island’s rich biodiversity.
Across Raffles Bali’s 23-hectare estate, more than 25 species of birds and 11 species of butterflies have been identified. The resort’s varied habitats – from fruiting canopies to shaded forest pathways and shoreline vegetation – support an evolving tapestry of wildlife, each species moving with its own rhythm throughout the day.

Among the most significant sightings is the Buru Green Pigeon, classified as Near Threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Distinguished by its soft green plumage and gentle presence, the Buru Green Pigeon is often observed around Loloan Beach Bar & Grill, The Farm Terrace and the gardens surrounding the two-bedroom villas. As with all wildlife encounters, sightings follow natural behaviours, seasonal patterns and the shifting cadence of each day.
Guided by the resort’s in-house curators, Wings of the Wild invites resident guests on a 45- to 60-minute walk supported by a monocular and a compact field guide. Along the way, guests discover species such as the Common, Javan and Collared Kingfisher, butterflies moving across sunlit foliage, and other native residents that thrive within the resort’s natural corridors. Curators also share fascinating insights and gentle narratives – from fun facts about bird behaviour to stories that reflect the deep connection between the wildlife and local cultural traditions.
Wings of the Wild is offered every Tuesday and Thursday at 9.00am, with late-afternoon sessions available on request and subject to availability. Thoughtfully designed to deepen appreciation of the island’s natural heritage, this experience is a serene and uplifting way to experience Bali’s world of beauty, wonder and inspiration – all without leaving the peaceful grounds of the resort.
