Shangri-La sustainable chocolate news: the brand’s Kuala Lumpur hotel proudly has announced a significant step towards sustainability with its latest collaboration with Chocolate Concierge, celebrating Malaysian cocoa heritage and supporting local communities. This partnership not only highlights the rich flavours of Malaysian single-origin cocoa but also underscores Shangri Kuala Lumpur‘s commitment to environmental and social responsibility.

In honour of World Chocolate Day this July, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur has introduced a unique chocolate experience that showcases the finest Malaysian cocoa. This initiative aims to promote sustainable cocoa farming practices and empower local communities involved in cocoa production across Malaysia.

Shangri-La sustainable chocolate: a Luxurious Chocolate Afternoon Tea Affair

From 7 July to 31 August 2024, guests at the Lobby Lounge are invited to indulge in an exquisite chocolate afternoon tea featuring artisanal treats crafted by Executive Sous Chef Annie Yam and her team. Each delicacy incorporates Malaysian single-origin cocoa, such as the award-winning Semai cacao from Pahang, Chemor cacao from Perak and more ensuring a blend of quality and sustainability in every bite.

“Our afternoon tea set menu at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur is inspired by our love for sustainability and supporting local communities. Our goal is to create a luxurious experience that delights our guests and promotes sustainable farming. Each treat on our menu tells a story of hard work, dedication, and responsible sourcing, connecting our guests to the origins of these delicious ingredients,” said Chef Annie Yam.

The Chocolate Afternoon Tea set features an array of Savoury and sweet delights. Indulge in the savouries selections such as the Tiger Prawn Salad with Cocoa Nib Cornet, offering a refreshing mix of tiger prawns, apple, and pomegranate in a roasted cocoa nib cornet. Another standout is the Snow Crab Cake with Remoulade and Caviar, balancing the delicate sweetness of crab with a tangy remoulade sauce, topped with caviar.

On the sweet side, savour the Dark Chocolate and Raspberry Sphere, a harmonious blend of rich dark chocolate with a tangy raspberry centre, crafted with 70% Semai cacao from the peak of the Malaysian Main Range in Pahang. This chocolate has a wonderful balance of tropical fruits, cashews, and red tea, which pairs perfectly with the tangy raspberry centre.

The Vanilla Salted Caramel Crèmeux and Chocolate Délice offer a delightful combination of creamy vanilla and salted caramel, paired with decadent chocolate, featuring 70% Temuan cacao, grown and harvested by the Temuan community in Pahang. This chocolate has complex flavours of cardamom, cloves, red rose, walnut, and toasted coconut. The Hazelnut Praline Chocolate Feuilletine Tart has a base topped with rich hazelnut praline and a luscious layer of chocolate made with 60% Chemor cacao, grown north of Ipoh. This region’s unique limestone soil and climate give the chocolate notes of tropical fruits, toffee, and a delicate woody finish. It adds a wonderful depth to the tart.

Additionally, guests can enjoy classic scones, including plain Scone and Cocoa & Strawberry Scone, served with raspberry jam, whipped butter, and clotted cream.

Guests can further enhance their afternoon tea with a choice of signature hot and cold chocolate beverages. The serene atmosphere of the Lobby Lounge, complemented by live performances from Thursday to Saturday and on public holidays, provides the perfect backdrop for this indulgent treat.

The Afternoon Tea set is available daily from 3.00pm to 6.00pm, priced at RM220 nett for 2 persons. An exclusive Afternoon tea set is available for delivery and take away for delivery and takeaways.

Indulge further with Chocolate Bars (50g) crafted from Malaysian single-origin cocoa, starting from RM48 nett each, ensuring exceptional quality and flavour in every bite.
