Slate Phuket Faroese Chronicles: Famous architect, artist and activist Bill Bensley is joining forces with Junkyard Theatre Phuket to create an exclusive art and theatre weekend, where he will take to the stage to bring to life his ‘Faroese Chronicles’ exhibition. The art-strewn Slate Phuket resort will provide the perfect setting for guests to learn from Bill Bensley how to unleash their inner artist, engage in a one-night-only dinner and theatre performance narrated by the artist, and indulge in a vibrant art-themed feast at Rivet, all while raising funds for the Shinta Mani Foundation and the Phuket Hotels Association.

Bill Bensley is no stranger to The Slate Phuket, having designed its urban chic interiors and whimsical gardens, and he is proud to return to the hotel for this fun-filled weekend of art, indulgence, and performance. Guests have the chance to book a three-night stay to enjoy intimate access to the much-feted architect and artist, who has earned an affectionate reputation as the Willy Wonka of design. Alternatively, limited tickets are available for the dinner and show, or an art-inspired lunch. On show at the hotel will be prints from The Faroese Chronicles, available for sale to further assist fundraising.

The Slate Phuket Faroese Chronicles is an exhibition of 38 artworks inspired by Bill Bensley’s numerous travels in the remote Faroe Islands and the quirky characters he discovered there. The Junkyard Theatre will perform a one-off show through song, dance, comedy, and rich storytelling, with Bill joining the performers onstage to share the wit and wisdom of his Faroese friends.

The entire weekend is being staged to raise money for The Shinta Mani Foundation, which is committed to a number of community outreach programs for the less fortunate, including building houses, providing clean water, education, as well as conservation and wildlife protection. Funds will also be shared with the Phuket Hotels Association’s Green Planet Initiative, which is fully committed to raising the awareness of environmental issues and sustainability to young people and empowering local communities in Phuket. This includes the provision and funding of environmental initiatives in local schools and communities in their sustainability efforts.

To further encourage fundraising, a special online auction will be arranged where both guests of the hotel and people at home can bid for amazing prizes including once-in-a-lifetime travel experiences.

Bill Bensley commented: “I always love returning to The Slate and am so looking forward to this fabulous event, which will be full of fun, but also with a serious side to raise funds and awareness for the Phuket Hotels Association and the Shinta Mani Foundation. John and his team are super talented – it’s going to be a night to remember for sure!”

John Underwood of Junkyard Theatre Phuket added: “Bringing Bill’s paintings to life on stage is such an exciting and interesting project. Each canvas holds intricate stories that we have woven into performances which match the bold, zany, and creative energy imbued in everything he touches. What could be better than having fun for a good cause?”

“Bill Bensley’s hotel designs are often like a film set, so it makes sense that he would end up on stage for the Faroese Chronicles. No doubt he will bring the same energy, imagination, and drama to his role of narrator as he does to his role of designer, architect, and artist. The Slate Phuket is proud to support this once-in-a-lifetime event to raise funds and give back to the community while creating something truly memorable,” says Krystal Prakaikaew Na-Ranong, owner of The Slate Phuket.

“Bill Bensley is not only an outrageously talented architect, artist, and designer; he is also a committed activist who never stops striving to make the world a better place. We are proud to partner with Bill once again, as well as with our friends at The Slate and Junkyard Theatre Phuket, for this important fundraising occasion. This is another great example of how we are working together as an island to give back to the communities that make Phuket such an incredible place to live, work and visit,” comments Bjorn Courage, President of the Phuket Hotels Association.
