The Palawan @ Sentosa: Shangri-La Group’s first lifestyle entertainment attraction

Palawan Sentosa

The Palawan Sentosa is the very first lifestyle entertainment precinct by Shangri-La Group. Located at Sentosa Island, Singapore it is spread across the sprawling shoreline, where the expansive 183,000 square-foot area houses eight distinctive experiences offering both wet and dry activities. Guests can also enjoy a host of exciting food and beverage options, accompanied by the attention to detail and Asian hospitality that are the hallmarks of Shangri-La.

It includes the HyperDrive, the region’s first gamified electric go-karting circuit spread over a three-level racetrack. The three-level, 308m-long, 5.3m-wide indoor circuit is built with thrilling straightaways and 14 hair-raising turns for an action-packed driving experience.

“With The Palawan @ Sentosa, we are creating new waves of excitement and bringing more colourful joys of life for our guests outside of our regular hotel setting. Shangri-La has a rich history of delivering joyful experiences for our guests, paired with our trademark Asian hospitality. With our very first standalone lifestyle entertainment precinct, we hope to continue delighting guests, and inspiring them to discover their personal Shangri-La with us, as they play, explore and bond through an array of exciting leisure and dining offerings we have specially put together at The Palawan @ Sentosa,” said Chan Kong Leong, Regional CEO for the Shangri-La Group in Southeast Asia & Australasia, Hong Kong, Japan and Middle East, Europe, Indian Ocean & The Americas.

HyperDrive
is the first in Asia to offer the ‘Game of Karts’ experience, where virtual racing meets real-life go-karting. Enhanced with sound and lighting effects for an immersive experience, drivers will enter a virtual gaming realm by collecting bonuses as ‘weapons’ to sabotage their competitors or as ‘boosts’ to turbo-charge their race to the podium.

HyperDrive is powered by a fleet of 36 eco-friendly electric go-karts that come in senior, junior and tandem kart configurations to cater to the young and young-at-heart. With each play session accommodating up to 12 karts at a time, the karts can go up to a top speed of 30km/h for the novice level and 50km/h for the advanced level (with additional requirements) to allow overtaking in a race to the finish.

Visitors can also soak in the action at the 110-seater HyperDrive Cafe located on the second floor. With a 32m-long open cantilevered gallery overlooking the tracks, they can fuel up on levelled-up diner-style classics.

Located a few steps away is UltraGolf, an 18-hole mini-golf course where everyone can put their putting skills to the test on the contoured greens. With two starting positions available on each hole, the course offers a more challenging game for seasoned golfers, or a simpler version for the aspiring ones.

Located next to UltraGolf is Sentosa’s first-and-only dog run – The Palawan Dog Run – ensuring furry members of the family are not left out for a day at the beach. The 3,800 square-foot secured green space, ideal for smaller and medium sized puppets, allows dogs to explore and mingle to their heart’s delight.

Lastly, those looking to soak up the sun and sea can seek thrills and spills at HydroDash, Singapore’s first floating inflatable playground.

Tantalising both tastebuds and senses

Families can enjoy a day under the sun at Splash Tribe, a premier family-oriented beach club for one and all. The all-in-one water playground experience features a sandcastle-themed wet-play zone equipped with water slides, water spray features and dumping buckets, providing young ones a splashing good time. Guests can choose between the daybeds, sun loungers or private two-storey gazebos for their delightful beachside respite and connect over crowd-pleasing fare made for easy sharing.

Those seeking a touch of exclusivity can visit +Twelve – the sophisticated beach club features distinctive terraced architecture and 12 private cabanas with personal plunge pools and unobstructed views of Palawan Beach. The 290-seater beach club is where luxury and sophistication converge for an elevated beach club experience. Patrons can get their drinks fixed by +Twelve’s in-house mixologists at the swim-up bar, and on weekends, immerse in smooth beats by in-house or guest DJs as they savour a series of exquisite bites from the contemporary summer menu. Complementing the food menu is a range of hand-crafted cocktails, and extensive selection of premium champagnes and hand-picked wines. Visitors to The Palawan @ Sentosa can also take their tastebuds on a culinary adventure at The Palawan Food Trucks. The 10 eclectic food trucks each feature cuisine from various parts of the world from Mexican tacos to crowd-pleasing Korean fried chicken. Beachgoers can grab their favourite comfort food and relax on upcycled furniture at the dining area or head to the best spots on the beach.

To further amp up the precinct’s vibrant dining scene, diners can get ataste of the Mediterranean at Greek restaurant, Blu Kouzina. Located between The Palawan Food Trucks and HydroDash, tenanted restaurant Blu Kouzina @ Palawan Beach delightd seafood enthusiasts and families seeking a children-friendly coastal dining experience in a stylish setting. With a focus on grilled fresh seafood specialties including whole fish, lobsters and shellfish, the menu also features signature dishes such as the lamb chops and sharing platters.

Sustainability at its Heart

The Palawan @ Sentosa is conceptualised and developed to enable visitors to enjoy themselves sustainably in line with various environmentally friendly initiatives being piloted in the precinct. Crew uniforms and towels at Splash Tribe and +Twelve are made from a mix of recycled ocean plastic and organic cotton, obtained from OceanR, a company specialising in carbon-neutral clothing. In addition to HyperDrive’s fleet of electric Go-Karts with zero tailpipe emission, all food and beverage items at The Palawan Food Trucks are served in 100% biodegradable and compostable foodware procured from Singapore-based TRIA.

Where feasible, waste materials are also given a second life, such as the wooden and rubber tyre furniture at The Palawan Food Trucks, and rocks excavated during its construction, which are now used to demarcate the beach and the precinct. These environmentally friendly efforts support the Sustainable Sentosa strategy roadmap to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030.
