Horizon Bar Ritz-Carlton Langkawi news: this prestigious resort bar heralds 2024 by presenting an unforgettable bar takeover by award-winning bartender Masahiko Endo of Hong Kong’s Mizunara: The Library, connecting to the Year of the Dragon this Chinese New Year.
Currently listed as No. 86 in Asia’s 100 Best Bars, The Library is also one of the winners in Tatler Hong Kong’s 2023 Tatler Dining Bar Awards for Best Cocktail Bar.
Having been listed in Asia’s 100 Best Bars numerous times under the helm of Mr. Endo, a seasoned bartender and judge who has won competitions in Japan and abroad since 2008, the cosy Japanese-style bar is renowned for its collection of over 600 rare and premium whiskies and sophisticated cocktails that utilize Japanese spirits blended with quality ingredients, for a sublime tipple.
Mr. Endo, Mizunara: The Library
From 19 to 21 January, the Fukuoka native and Group Beverage Director of Mizunara brings his signature flair to the legendary island of Langkawi, with three delicious concoctions inspired by the auspicious Year of the Dragon, available exclusively at Horizon Lounge & Bar. Guests will also have the chance to get hands-on and learn how to make Dragon’s Breath and Gems of the Forest under the tutelage of Mr. Endo, in an intimate master class. This bar takeover also marks the start of the resort’s guest bartender program for 2024, where one guest bartender will take over Horizon each quarter.
Guests of The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi will be able to enjoy this extraordinary cocktail experience with Horizon’s iconic sunset view, beside the resort’s award-winning adults-only infinity pool.
Dragon’s Breath
Inspired by the auspicious Year of the Dragon and the dragon being the symbol of Hong Kong, this spicy cocktail combines red dragon fruit puree with chili, invoking the image of a dragon’s fire breath. The herbal notes from the Tamras Gin blend with the mixture, resulting in a spicy drink with sweet and sour notes.
Savoury Plum Sour
This cocktail uses Japanese elements such as Shochu and Umeshu. The Hachi Komekasu has the aroma of aged sake which blends excellently with the fruitiness from Kumquat Umeshu and the umami flavour from the preserved plum-infused Fino Sherry.

Gems from the Forest
Inspired by the ancient rainforest and lush greenery that fills Langkawi, Mr. Endo created this delicate cocktail in gratitude to nature.
As a gift from the harvest and aged inside a wooden cask, Yamazakura whisky is used and blended with Matcha from natural fresh tea leaves, along with almond milk and maple syrup that comes from the forest. This cocktail is a rich and creamy liquid dessert bursting with natural flavour.
The masterclass is happening on 12.00pm – 3.00pm on 20 January, priced at MYR 180 per person, inclusive of two drinks. Advance reservations are highly encouraged.
