Benchmarking Pullman Bangkok Hotel G – City’s Most Fashionable and Vibrant

by Joakim Persson

Fashionable Pullman Bangkok Hotel G is an offer for accommodation in the Thailand metropolitan that leaves a lasting impression (Pullman is Accor’s upscale hotel brand designed with the requirements of business women and men in mind.) Here is why.

O.K, perhaps you might need to at least feel young at heart, choosing this particular city hotel, but gone is the standard seen-it-all-before lobby, where you simply check in and pass by on your way in and out of the hotel. Most guests will appreciate some fresh new ideas as long as it has balance, for instance regarding the music volume – which has the right level here, recognising that guests do their check in and check out here.

After its rebranding (formerly a Sofitel) and total refurbishment this hotel is unlike anything else in the city, and has paved the way for a new breed of cool and vibrant lifestyle hotels, and for instance, having disc jockeys as part of a hotel’s standard ingredients, which can manifest themselves in different ways. Experience the G effect!

First look: fashionable guests! Now a hip and young type of traveller has a hotel to match. The vibe at Pullman Bangkok Hotel G clearly has the finger on the pulse and projects a fashion-forward ambiance. One can clearly see it on the type of guests attracted to the property for a stay – or just for evening amusement.

The entrance hosts, the vibrant lobby as a living room with DJ entertainment, the 25 Degrees dining attraction – they all contribute to this hotel making its mark on the Bangkok map as a hotel of the kind that is far from the norm here; thus resetting benchmarks, actually. The vibe is surprising and just great from the moment one arrives!

And its location is only a short walk from the Chong Nonsi Skytrain Station (BTS), taking just 5 minutes by foot.

Pullman Bangkok Hotel G’s female hosts

The hotel’s welcome hosts are the focal point of guest interaction and a new take on concierge service. These hosts take action for all guest requests promptly and efficiently,

It’s a female “invasion” – consisting in young and attentive ladies wearing white jackets, and being on alert, armed with two computers and phones. open the entrance doors and greet you welcome as if we were family.

They are positioned right inside the doors and at the far end of a multi-purpose timber desk, which runs the length of the lobby and incorporates a bar, DJ booth, and laptop Wi-Fi desk.

And you may find yourself (borrowing from the pop band Talking Heads’s lyrics)…in another part of the world. And you may not know how to find things (in this Asian capital…) And you may find yourself in an all-white guest room… And you may ask yourself – how did you get here?

Well, then you will feel that Pullman Bangkok Hotel G really can be your friend and constitute a place where you can make new friends too! And can get help to find your bearings.

And I do not know their role at first, but I happen to have the need to book a bus ticket for my further trip to the next destination. So I approach these ladies in white jackets, as they seem to be the staff to turn to and, voila!, the host I turn to for assistance turns out to be so helpful and solves the booking for me, (and as a result my problem is solved with an otherwise complicated language barrier.)

These wonderful lobby hosts will assist you with various tasks, such as making restaurant reservations, arranging for Spa services, tickets, various travel arrangements and of course advising on the neighbourhood and recommended excursions.

This, mind you, also frees up a lot of issues and questions otherwise put forward to the reception desk team, making the check in and check out more smooth for guests.

Lobby livingroom

Pullman Bangkok Hotel G has 469 stylishly designed rooms that have undergone a complete makeover, along with the refurbishment of meeting rooms and public areas, and a major transformation of its dining outlets. This also means that at any time there are people in this cosy lobby, partly hung with floor-to-ceiling draping which somewhat resembles the interior one would find in a beauty parlour, or perhaps photo studio!

So, thanks to the way it is designed, and being multi-purposed this lobby is every guest’s extended living room, and also in company with citizens coming here especially nighttime, for food and cocktails, or a business lunch!

Behind the long desk is a whitewashed tile wall, with beads of lights changing colours in the evenings, combined with many flickering candles placed on the lobby’s wall-mounted steps.

A strong recommendation is making time for happy hour to enjoy the golden hour and high vistas from one of Bangkok’s best terraces and restaurants/bars Scarlett Bangkok, with a selection of drinks starting from THB100++ from 5 PM to 7 PM daily.

All-white hotel

Then: surprisingly spruced up rooms and with floor-to-ceiling windows! On the way to the room light boxes in the elevator display fashion faces, to accentuate the hotel’s smart and trendy concept. The corridors are refurbished in grey and white – setting the tone for a snow-white room interior (except for only a few splashes of orange.)

Walls, chair, bed and linen, mirror frame, mosaic-sized bathroom tiles and see-through curtains – with the afternoon sun on the hotel’s riverside casting warm beams of light into the room – are all white. The plank flooring is also painted in diluted white (for the vintage look.)

Some of us guests can be a bit allergic to all-white designs, but with a thought-out concept it works, especially in how details come to “shine” in the evening; when switching on the room lamps it’s actually quite nice with the furniture and interior being this bright and stylish.

The bed in this G Deluxe room is ultra comfortable and the room size generous (34 sqm), and comes with a solid work desk and chair for conducting work in a relaxed atmosphere.

Another relaxing zone is the outdoor dark blue tiled pool area under roof, coming with a pool bar, and an indoor gymnasium next to it.

Located on the 27th floor, Executive Lounge access is extended to guests staying in the hotel’s Executive and Suite Rooms, offering dazzling city views.

Pullman Bangkok Hotel G dining

There are also other dining outlets – including the aformentioned Scarlett Bangkok (somewhat of a Bangkok wine and dine legend since the previous the V9 Wine Bar and Restaurant on the 37th floor), which remains an exceptionally good bar and restaurant, featuring its open-air terrace with great views of the Bangkok skyline facing the west and the Chao Phraya River.

Expect delicious French cuisine and a stellar selection of wines to go with whatever dish you fancy. The menu included fabulous gourmet cuisine with seafood (scallops), Foie Gras, imported cold cuts and a large variety of cheeses, great tapas, a special caviar selection.

Mistral is the hotel’s all day contemporary dining outlet on the second floor, with street-side windows, a blonde wood and peach-hued ceiling interior and open kitchen with food stations. Mistral offers a gourmet selection of Asian and Western food. Look out for specials from the different cuisines of the world!

In doing this review it was a pleasure to savour the sumptuous Sunday Brunch buffet spread, with an option for free flow of beer, wine (example Vistaflor Sauvignon Blanc / Chenin Blanc) and sparkling (Morgan’s Bay Sparkling Cuvee) at an affordable price.

From the spread: Baby squid with tomato herbs sauce, Tuscan pork spare rib, Seekh Kabab, Pan fried sea bass with lemon sauce, Roasted marinated chicken with Mexican spices, Teriyaki beef, Tomato and mozzarella with pesto chorizo, Marinated salmon…and for dessert Chocolate Crème Brûlée, Mango sorbet, or for instance Coconut pineapple… getting hungry are we?

Last mention: your hunger can also be satisfied 24/7 at 25 Degrees Bangkok (a concept from Los Angeles, named after the precise temperature difference between a raw and well-done hamburger), serving funky sandwiches, juicy award-winning burgers, hot dog, French/curly Fries, pork spare ribs, chicken wings, salads, and for drinks find wine, liquour, soft drinks and coffee and breakfast!
