General Manager Samit Ganguly has been appointed to oversee Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta. A third-generation hotelier with more than a decade of experience in Jakarta, Samit brings to his role a passion for hospitality excellence along with an extensive knowledge of the local market landscape.

 

“The Four Seasons brand has enjoyed a long presence in Jakarta and I’m honoured to become the custodian of this incredibly special Hotel,” shares Samit. “Together with my team, I look forward to building upon our legacy of success and creating ever-more memorable experiences for guests. In the coming months, we will be introducing a revitalized culinary program, all-new creative experiences, and a series of exclusive events rooted in culture and community.”

 

After completing an accounting degree and MBA in his hometown of Kolkata, India, Samit got onto the hospitality track with a front office position at an iconic Indian hotel. Thus began a rewarding career, now in its 25th year. Gaining early experience in front office and reservations, he then made the move to sales and marketing, refining his skills with international hospitality brands in Kolkata, New Delhi and Dubai.

 

In 2012, Samit joined an acclaimed five-star hotel in Jakarta as director of sales and marketing, where he spearheaded ambitious changes during his tenure, his success ultimately landing him the role of hotel manager. In 2018, he became general manager for the first time, adeptly steering a premier resort in Phuket through the worst of the pandemic before returning to Jakarta, where he led the post-COVID recovery and resurgence of an esteemed luxury hotel.

 

Now, taking charge of the Jakarta luxury hotel, Samit is excited to make the most of the property’s architectural and artistic brilliance. “With each space unfolding a new layer of feeling and interaction, the guest journey becomes a story,” he says, noting how the interiors have been meticulously curated to foster intimacy, warmth and connection. “Even after ten years, the design of the Hotel is just as fresh and relevant. This is what we call ‘timeless’ in the world of luxury hospitality.”

 

As a leader, Samit counts his achievements in terms of the relationships he has built, the trust he has generated, and the team members he has nurtured along the way. Budgets may come and go but these are the things that endure, he explains, adding that ‘individual success’ doesn’t exist in this industry – all achievements come down to cooperation, collaboration and teamwork.

 

During his leisure time, Samit enjoys playing tennis and watching sports. Cricket resonates with his Indian roots, while his passion for football drives his enthusiastic support for Liverpool Football Club. He is also an avid movie buff, with a soft spot for Indian movies from the nineties.
