Hotel Openings

With the voco Kuching hotel opening a new chapter in Sarawak’s hospitality landscape begins, and also marks the debut of IHG Hotels & Resorts‘ premium brand in Malaysia.

Each voco property is characterised by its individual charm, creating an inviting and unstuffy atmosphere for guests, backed by the consistency and reliability of a global hotel brand. Designed by award-winning hospitality design studio SL+A Hotels, the interiors reinterpret Sarawak’s culture and craftsmanship through a contemporary lens. With soft architectural curves and layered textures inspired by Sarawak’s warm and easy-going character, voco Kuching serves as an ideal gateway to the vibrant riverside capital affectionately known as the “City of Cats”.

“This marks the beginning of an exciting journey for voco Kuching. Our aspiration goes beyond providing a great stay experience. We hope to create a place where travellers and locals alike can connect, slow down, share experiences, and leave with stories worth remembering,” said GM Magdalina Chung. “This opening also represents the collective efforts of hundreds of individuals who have worked tirelessly to bring Malaysia’s first voco property to life.”

Conveniently located just minutes from Kuching International Airport, the 321-room hotel represents a significant addition to Kuching’s growing tourism and business events landscape. The guest experience is built around the three distinctive hallmarks of the voco brand – ‘come on in’, ‘me time’, and ‘voco life,’ brought to life through voco hosts. Guests are invited to ‘come on in’ with a signature voco welcome treat that is unique and representative of the local area, and a swift check-in. At voco Kuching, guests will receive Sarawak Coffee Cookies made with Gula Apong, presented in a handcrafted woven holder by local indigenous artisans. ‘Me time’ beckons with its 321 guestrooms and suites, which includes premium balcony rooms, one- and two-bedroom suites, including dedicated work area and space to lounge.

Guests are also welcomed to enjoy a slice of ‘voco life’ at LUMA, the hotel’s signature restaurant inspired by local flavours and global influences, or unwind at AMPM, a day-to-night café and bar – while the hotel’s outdoor swimming pool offers the chance to relax by the cabanas. For meetings and celebrations, the hotel offers more than 2,400 square metres of event space, including one of Kuching’s largest hotel ballrooms, Rainforest Ballroom, which accommodates up to 1,350 guests. Staying true to the hotel’s “step by step” sustainability mantra, voco Kuching is committed to innovation and sustainability, with filtered drinking water systems, premium organic bulk bath amenities from Apotheke, and pillow and duvet fillings made from recycled materials.

The opening adds to the momentum of the voco hotels which recently celebrated the milestone of 100 open hotels globally, including regional openings such as voco Bangkok Surawong and voco Bandung Setiabudi. IHG continues to strengthen its presence in Malaysia across all brand segments, with 13 open hotels and eight in the pipeline, including the upcoming debut of Regent and Vignette Collection in the market.
