Hotel G in Thailand consists in two properties, the immensely popular Pullman Pattaya Hotel G resort as well as the downtown Bangkok Pullman Bangkok Hotel G (another favourite of Happy Hour Asia). And it had been on our bucket list for quite some time to review the Pattaya resort, with its seafront beach club, where the setting is typically both relaxing and vibrant – simultaneously. A wedding may for example be taking place, with a sunset ceremony on the beach, right in the middle of the beach club – which is usually packed with holiday-makers at any given weekend. Or when The Beach Club hosts one of its regular parties with a guest DJ and drink and food packages as draws, including for outside guests from around the beach city of Pattaya.
It’s a trendy weekend hot spot for Bangkok people too – where to see and be seen. Its tagline reads: ‘The only Lifestyle Hotel on the Beach’ – and rightly so!
Aside the beach club with its bar and restaurant, the Pullman Pattaya resort also houses a club lounge, which is also situated seaside – which is rather cool as option when one wants such perks and pampering, and in a seaside setting! Overlooking these is also an excellent spa – Aisawan Spa, which has outdoor massage ‘salas’ placed upon a platform. So, at this resort hotel pretty much all the action takes place overlooking the sunset beach, with the seaside venues taking centre stage (the same goes also for a meetings building).
But this very fact does by no means diminish the hotel building as such – where all rooms has a slice of sea view and where an atrium is revealing itself a few floors above the large lobby ground floor!
The hotel entrance as such is design like a gate, made with bright marble and glass doors.
The foyer has classic inlaid marble flooring and – same as for the sister Bangkok property lobby – floor-to-ceiling white drapes.
Conveying in international vibe one wall by the café have large wall clocks indicating the time in other time zones, like New York, Paris, Beijing etc.
At the centre, side by side are two large, crescent beige sofas with pillows and a creamy-orange hued piano.
A long one side an extended desk have all the guest services for concierge, check-in, check-out etc. and with a fast check-out box too. The reception is also furnished with oblong, round lantern-like textile lamps that have warm lights. It’s very stylish-looking and cosy here at night-time.
There is a Lobby Lounge Bar open until 4 pm that serves beverages fine teas, pastries and cakes – a nice place to hang out for internet browsing.
Pullman Pattaya Hotel G: boutique-feel with atrium
‘Walking up the stairs one finds the newly renovated G Club Fitness Center, equipped by Life Fitness. And it’s when taking the lifts up to the accommodation floors that the oblong building reveals its glass-covered atrium, with white wooden railings and bended corners on each floor – in very classic style.
The hotel – looking relatively small in comparison – houses no less than 353 rooms and suites, with a blend of contemporary Thai and trendy design. The Executive Room for this review stay comes with club benefits at the Sunset Lounge, directly overlooking the ocean and the beach club, and – being high up – boasting a superb panorama view of the shoreline and Pattaya.
The bright vacation-oriented interior design is dominated by natural wood panels and blonde timber, and white furniture, such as the chairs and table on the balcony. A wallpaper is made of the kind of material used for weaving baskets. Blackout curtains are beige.
The bathroom comes with a white sink, and blonde wood details, while its flooring, including the foyer, consists in sandy tiles. A green tinted glass window separated the bathroom from the bedroom, to see through from the bathtub.
There are also huge mirrors in both bathroom and foyer – the hotel knows what especially female guests need…
Bedside, a stylish creamy white high-back designer armchair with footrest is quite a place where to relax with a drink and something to read! And the room in fact includes weathered second hand books to read.
On the bed, with its lined white linen, is a nice welcome decoration, and there is a well filled fruit basket. Fresh roses in vase, a wall shelf with books, photographs of famous celebrities from yesteryear, a model train and a game are part of the décor. Other ubiquitous items, such as a built-in work desk, mini bar and flat screen TV are also there.
Pullman Pattaya Hotel G’s Sunset Lounge
After having unpacked and changed to something more leisurely it is time to head to the Sunset Lounge, where afternoon tea is served 14.00 – 16.00. The club lounge turns out to be situated on the second floor above the Beach Club Restaurant, with its own canopy-shaded outdoor terrace overlooking Wong Amart Beach, a restful beach flanked by residential apartment buildings and hotels.
Here, Pullman Pattaya Hotel G offers exclusivity with a view, overlooking both the sea and the beach club action.
Since it is rather hot in the afternoon it is nice to enjoy the afternoon tea in the air-conditioned indoor lounge, which resembles a ship-like saloon with a brown wood floor deck. It is furnished with round, shiny stone surfaced tables; high-back creamy white sofas; and other seating in beige and white – accented by blue and blue-white pillows.
Canapés served include Quiche salmon lime and Sundried tomato cheese bruschetta, Thai fruit and desserts, and – a personal favourite – scones with marmalade!
Later, is Evening Canapés, at 5.30pm – 6.30pm, upon the visit served outdoors on the terrace below – with the setting sun as backdrop. Aside cocktails and red wine, Chilano Sauvignon Blanc and a lovely rosé wine are served, which goes excellent with plates of biscuits; dried fruit; olives; salad; assorted cheese and cold cuts; chorizo and parma ham; seafood salad; and of course canapés, including Sundried tomato cheese bruchetta! The spread is nicely placed on top of cut timber plates. Paired with the setting the food and drinks are to great satisfaction!
Pullman Pattaya Hotel G – The Beach Club
As for The Beach Club there’s of course a happy hour – enjoy special prices on selected drinks during a generous three hours, starting from 2pm, and priced from only THB 120 NET per glass! Bask in the sun on daybeds, in the restaurant, or in the bar (the white canopy-covered bar come with bar desks on its beachside as well as well as its opposite side).
Discounted cocktails include Margarita / Daiquiri, Mojito and Pina Colada. Sparkling wine: Peri Anima, Treviso from Italy. Rosé: Rival, Australia. White: Rival, Sauvignon Blanc. Red: Rival, Shiraz. And there are mocktails too! Tutti Frutty etc.!
Other than for Happy Hour the beach club recommended mixed drinks, including: Cuba Libre, Bacardi Ginger, Bombay G&T, Grey Goose Cranberry etc.
The Beach Club nicely reflects boat life and the Mediterranean – with its mainly blue-and-white colour scheme, used for bath towels, cushions, mattresses, bar stools and rattan beach chairs.
The daybeds are in high demand and where food and drinks is served on small mobile tables.
A signage board announces all the resort’s activities for the day: 9 am yoga; 10 am kids activities; 2 pm step aerobics, ocean kayak and stand up paddle board; 3 pm stretching and ABS.
In the evening, the venue is also decorated with string lights, and the palms lining the beach gives that magnificent tropical character with the sunset sky as backdrop!
The food promotions vary and upon the visit the Seafood Platter is an irresistible delicacy for dinner for two, offered all day on Thursdays. Local and imported catches include: Grilled river prawn, Rock lobster, Squid, Steamed Blue Swimmer Crab, French Fine de Claire Oysters, Mussels, Yum Woon Sen (Thai Spicy Glass Noodle Salad). A nice offer is also to add THB 999++ to get a bottle of that nice rosé wine to go with the seafood.
If waking up early one can catch the morning sunlight beams like a spotlight over the beach club between the buildings. The breakfast at the Sunset Lounge is served from 6.30am, with a decent selection of fresh juices; bread; pastries; cheddar and gouda cheese; cold cuts including chorizo, salmon, salami and smoked chicken. There is also an egg station and choices of waffles, French toast, sautéed mushroom, bacon and dumplings.
It is also nice to see the resort’s on-site mini farm, where hot basil; sweet basil; Spanish thyme etc. are grown and then used for both cocktails and food.
Pullman Pattaya Hotel G’s Aisawan Spa
Last guest advice about this destination resort: Make time for some spa pampering too; you won’t be disappointed! First of all, the Aisawan Spa environs are really calming, with dim light and good chill-out sounds at the right volume. The therapist pays really good attention to detail too.
Trying out the ‘Spa Buffet’ (a personalised 120-minute spa experience), the treatment choices fall on a coffee scrub (30 minutes), followed by a 90-minute aromatic lavender massage.
Therapist manages to find really stiff muscles and tendons right on the shoulders and into the arm – especially the right ‘mouse arm’… It’s a really soothing experience and successful loosening up of muscles; especially, in this particular case the stiff lower legs.
Some of the treatments to choose from were Body milk bath, Mangosteen salt scrub, Aromatherapy massage, Leg and foot massage, Shampoo and blow dry.
Can’t wait to come back for more serious self-care here!
