Shangri-La 40 years Kuala Lumpur celebration: The luxury hotel is marking four decades of timeless hospitality by bringing back a beloved social tradition with a modern twist. On Saturday, 19 July 2025, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur will host An Afternoon in Style, a one-day fashion show and afternoon tea experience in collaboration with Carven Ong Couture.

Set in the heart of the city at the hotel’s Lobby Lounge, the event invites guests to enjoy an afternoon where fashion and flavour meet in perfect harmony. The highlight of the day will be the Signature Spring/Summer couture collection by Carven Ong, one of Malaysia’s most renowned designers. He is celebrated for his elegant bridal and evening gowns, and for dressing international celebrities and pageant queens. He gained global recognition when his bespoke designs were featured in the blockbuster film Crazy Rich Asians, including the iconic gold wedding dress that captivated audiences around the world.

Guests will also be treated to a curated designer bag collection by Ryan Lee, known for his stylish yet functional pieces, and an exquisite jewellery showcase by Grace Teoh, whose delicate creations blend elegance with modern craftsmanship. Together, the collections reflect a harmonious blend of Malaysian artistry and contemporary luxury.

This exclusive event revives the nostalgic glamour of Kuala Lumpur’s social weekends in the 1980s and 1990s, when fashion shows and afternoon teas were highlights of the city’s cultural calendar. Guests are invited to relive that charm in a refreshed, contemporary setting.

To complement the fashion showcase, a specially curated 40th Anniversary Afternoon Tea will be served, featuring handcrafted savouries, desserts and premium teas all presented with the gracious service that is the hallmark of Shangri-La hospitality.

An Afternoon in Style will take place on Saturday, 19 July 2025 at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur’s Lobby Lounge at 3.00pm and is priced at RM280 nett for two persons.
